For this Talharpa, I used cherry wood from local cultivation – specifically from the Bavarian Forest. Since it is a bit softer than oak wood, the sound is slightly softer and warmer. And instead of working with sheet metal this time, I used a pyrography pen and simple paint.
The text burned onto the instrument reads as follows (Icelandic):
„þótt maðr gleymi mér vindvatni jörð en eldr ber ek enn nafn mitt ok fjöllin ok vættir syngva söng minn“
„Though man may forget me, wind, water, earth, and fire still carry my name. And the mountain, the trees, and the spirits sing my song.“
I am reminded every day that my time is limited. But I do not want to leave without having created something that will outlast me. And I truly hope this applies to my instruments, that they bring joy to those who play them, and of course, to the listeners as well …
